Calling All Fashionistas!

Ladies! I'm currently looking to fill my June calendar with pop-up shops. If you're unfamiliar with a pop-up shop, that's okay. This post is going to walk you through both kinds of pop-up shops: in person and virtual.

In-Person Pop-Ups
If you are local to the New England area, you're eligible to host an in-person pop-up with me! Together, we plan and host a themed (or un-themed) get together with as many as your friends as you'd like. We work together to create and send out invitations, and I will be in charge of bringing along a table full of samples, lookbooks, order forms, light snacks and beverages, decorations, and games. The entire party is customized exactly how you want, it can be as casual as you'd like - and you can have as little or as much involvement in the planning as you would like. You can have a pop-up with as little as 2-3 guests, and I recommend capping the attendance at 20 to ensure everybody gets the individualized attention they deserve.

Online Pop-Ups
Want to earn the hostess rewards but don't have the time to commit to a pop-up, or too far away? No problem. Online pop-ups are great! They are more flexible in regards to time, and can reach a large network of people all at once. Everyone invited to your online pop-up shop (either through an e-vite, a blog post, or a Facebook page... or all three) checks out with your specific pop-up shop, and the rewards are credited to you soon after.

I still have some questions...

What do I have to do?
As I mentioned before, your involvement can be as little or as much as you would like. At the very least, you will need to invite your network and do a little bit of simple marketing, that I will walk you through. Just remember - the more active you are, the more successful your shop will be, and the more rewards you'll earn!

What do you do to make sure the shop is successful?
Whether the shop is in-person or online, I'm behind the scenes arming you with a variety of posts, images, and sending out styling suggestions to your guests. I'm ensuring all the orders are credited to the account, and that everything arrives in a timely manner and that everybody is thrilled with their purchases. (And of course, if the pop-up is in person... the clean up!)

Okay... what are the hostess perks you keep talking about?
Chloe + Isabel has an amazing hostess perks package. And each month there is an additional incentive to sweeten the deal. Pop-up shops hosted during any given month will receive:

$50 credit when your shop's sales reach $200
$100 credit when your shop's sales reach $400
$150 credit when your shop's sales reach $600
$200 credit when your shop's sales reach $800
...and so on!
The Hostess Hoops in gold or silver when your shop's sales reach $400

And this month's special incentive is...

You can earn the Pave Paliette Two-Row Necklace, $250 in jewelry credit, and the host-exclusive branch earrings for free when your pop-up shop is held between June 1 and June 30, has at least 3 orders, and reaches a total of $1000 in sales.

If you missed my overview of the Moroccan Summer launch that I did yesterday, you may want to go back and check out some of the incredible pieces that we are offering this summer. Or, go ahead right to my boutique and start getting your wishlist ready.

Why Chloe + Isabel?
Because quality is a beautiful thing. We stand by every item we sell. Everything purchased through me will come with a lifetime replacement guarantee. If it ever breaks, or becomes too well-worn, we will replace it for you or issue you a credit. Others can attest to this, too! We've been featured in Vogue, Glamour, Lucky, TechCrunch... and did you know - Ashton Kutcher is one of our favorite investors?

I'd be happy to answer any other questions you might have. Feel free to leave them in the comments, or email me at dontpanicdeannablog[at] And always check out my boutique for the latest styles and trends!

Design Diaries v.5

Before I presented my Omega, I started playing around with the added colour of geometric shapes and adding color. I love the minimalistic style of my typography, but thought I could add a little bit of interest with some colour. (And I think I was right!) So I found inspiration in my favorite series: Harry Potter!

I'm a bit of a nerd! If you didn't know, I (proudly) have two Harry Potter-related tattoos. So when it dawned on me to pay homage to my favorite series with my work, I wasn't sure why I didn't think of it sooner. They're up for sale now in my Etsy shop. Click through each picture to go directly to my shop! They are $10 each, or buy the whole set for $35.

Want to win the entire set, for free?! I'm going to be giving you the opportunity to do just that. Keep an eye out for the contest in the next few days. Which Hogwarts house is your favorite?

Update on Life

WOW, okay! So much has happened since I last updated. Let's catch up?

I presented my Omega, and seriously... I thought I might pass out right there. I didn't eat for about three days and peed AT LEAST 12 times before I went up to present. While I was up there, I truly felt that I might melt into the floor at any given second. However, my amazing friends came to support me, and they assured me that I looked cool, calm, and collected, and killed the presentation. Whether or not I believe them is still up in the air, but I presented and my professors were so proud and it's over... so I'm happy.

I graduated college..? It's honestly so weird to say that. I don't feel any different, yet I keep seeing my diploma on the wall and the realizations set in that it's all over! It's strange because I'm definitely in a weird phase where I'm not quite sure which direction I should go in now. I've been applying to jobs, but grad school is in the back of my mind. Even if I did decide to go that route, it would be a few years off at least. I'd like to work full time for a while, as strange as that may sound. I want to get some real-life experience before I go back into the classroom.

Please don't stalk me? Although, honestly, all that information is pretty readily available on the internet. I have no money, it's no use stalking me - promise!

I've been spending all day working on my posting schedule for the next month and a half, and I'm really excited to share some of these posts with you. Sorry I've been flaky this past month... but moving across the country is serious work, y'all.

Design Diaries v.4 // Dreams By Design: An Omega Presentation

Hey! Thanks for checking out this post! It's a presentation for my senior omega report. It's great to look back and see how this blog has grown in a year!

In the 90's, blogging emerged as a place for the author to share their thoughts, interests, and hobbies. Very recently however, it has completely transformed into a major business opportunity. Blogs are no longer just a place to preserve the personal life of the blogger. They are changing the game of publishing, and are becoming seen as an integral part of a business, where their expertise and knowledge in their industry can be shown.

I picked up the basics of HTML and image design when I was 12. Until college, I had been teaching myself anything I needed to know how through tutorials and YouTube videos. Over a year ago I just so happened to start this blog. At that point in time, I had no real plans for it. I had no idea what it would become, or what it was truly capable of. A year later, I've learned that this it happens to be one of the most valuable tools I've created. Not only is it a blog, but it also works as a portfolio, a resume, a networking tool, and an incredibly valuable advertisement for my virtual design shop: Dreams by Design.

This is the first layout design I had ever created for this blog. It took me a few days to design all the pieces I needed, and a few more days to code them all into the places they needed to go.

At first, I wasn't writing about anything in particular. But slowly, I started sharing examples of my minimalistic typography designs and was receiving positive feedback from other design blogs. I would share my feedback on other blogs, and I found they would later leave feedback on my blog. I was searching for other work that inspired me, and people would tell me that the work I was doing was inspiring them. And suddenly, I saw that I was networking. I realized that blogging is a community, and if you are willing to put yourself out there, people will eventually notice.

Soon after, I decided to post a couple of basic designs up in my Etsy shop. For those not familiar with Etsy, it's an online marketplace for buying and selling handmade goods, vintage items, and crafting supplies. I didn't post anything with the intention of becoming an Etsy sensation overnight. But when I made my first sale and had my first seller check of $13.33, I remember thinking that someone, somewhere had one of my designs displayed. And it inspired me to go further with my shop.

Once my shop had been completely rebranded, I took some time to research other shops in a similar market to see what kind of products they were offering, and at what price points. Additionally, I had developed a survey in order to learn more about consumer buying habits, an appropriate price point for my product, and to try and gain a consumer's perspective on my shop.

All the contacts I had made since I had started blogging have been beneficial since I've started paid advertisements for Dreams by Design. My biggest form of advertisement is through this blog, where I share my work, as well as design and marketing tips. I also advertise through Facebook pages, Pinterest, and Instagram posts. Right now, I'm only sharing through my personal social media accounts, though in the future I expect to have a profiles exclusively for Dreams by Design.

Currently, my product line is small. I have about 20 different designs for sale in my shop at any time. They are printed on an 8.5 x 11 piece of premium matte paper, and shipped out in a rigid photo mailer within 4 business days. The price point on this is $10, with a $3 shipping charge which covers the cost of shipping materials.

I took an interest in redesigning my blog at the beginning of the semester. After a year, I decided it was time for a fresh look. With graduation approaching, I knew having this blog and my shop as an extra source of income wouldn't hurt either. When I did a mock up for the redesign, I wanted to go for one bright color and balance it off with a grey. I picked green as my color, and made it a little more interesting by lowering the opacity, giving it a watercolor effect.

This time, I was a little more ambitious when designing and installing my new layout. I think I had started it and had it completely installed in a window of 24 hours. Granted, that required me staying up until 3 a.m. one morning; but I was really invested in the project, so it was well worth the sleepless night.

I enjoyed the process so much, that I figured in addition to selling prints in my Etsy shop, I could also offer design packages to other bloggers. I've created a comprehensive design package, that will set any blogger up for success. Additionally, I've offered add-ons that aren't necessarily crucial to have, but will make the blogger's overall branding more successful and streamlined.

I would love to have the opportunity to do this full-time, and that is certainly something that I'm working towards. I'm currently looking into ways to expand the product in my Etsy shop. In the near future, I'd love to offer framed prints and greeting cards. Digital design has been a part of my life for the past 10 years, and I am running towards the day I can finally quit my job in retail. Until then, I'll continue using my blog and my Etsy shop to build my personal brand, and bettering my skills as a designer and business owner.

Wishful Thinking v.2

I'm literally freaking out. It is my last week of classes in my undergrad. MY LAST WEEK. When did this even happen? I have four days of classes left to make some serious magic and finish the semester (and my entire undergrad...) strong.

So what am I wishing for this week?

1. PATIENCE! Goodness gracious, I sure do need it this week. Especially when working with design. Sometimes you work hours on something and no matter what you do, it just doesn't look right. I have a lot of designs and a lot of drafts to get through without pulling my hair out.

2. Grace! My omega presentation is on Thursday, and I have to present my REAL business to a lot of people. A lot of people will make business plans for pretend businesses... but I have a lot more on the line. This is a real business, with real customers, and the criticisms will be extra real and hurt way worse.

Honestly, I don't think I have room to wish for anything extra this week. If I have enough patience and grace to make it through these next four days, I will be absolutely golden.

PS: those of you in college... yeah I had to do exit loan counseling the other day where they essentially tell you how much you owe and your options on how to pay it back. STUDENT LOANS ARE REAL, AND YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM EVENTUALLY... unless you die.

Design Diaries v.3

The redesign is complete! I am officially running on no sleep. I accidentally got way too caught up in this project and forgot about all of my other immediate responsibilities. (Oops!) I'm so excited about the simplified color palette and new design. Here's the final mockup I was working off of:

I had so much fun doing this, and am definitely interested in doing more blog redesigns. If you'd like me to redesign your blog for you, shoot me an email! I'm in the early stages of freelance designing and would love to speak to interested bloggers about redoing your blog for an introductory rate!

Music On My Mind v.2

So, to keep me from listening to the same music over and over, I decided to make a new playlist each month. That way I can throw the songs I'm currently obsessed with on there and listen over and over again. As always, I'm using the fabulous Spotify Premium service for my playlists. You can try a month of Premium for free by following that link, and if you're a student... it's only $4.99 a month after that!

Not all of these are necessarily recent... but they popped up in my Spotify Discover feature, and I've been really loving Sick of Sarah!

PS... did y'all get a sneak peek at the Boston Calling lineup for September? LORDE! I want to die! I had a presale offer where I could have gotten a 3-day pass for only $100. Next time I get an offer like that, I'm definitely going to trust the Boston Calling gods.

Design Diaries v.2

Hey everybody! My omega presentation is one week from today and of course, I decided to completely switch up everything I had already planned (yay?). My original plan was to create a website for myself (I already created two that I was deciding between...) but neither of them were what I wanted, and they all linked back to my blog.

So I decided... I'm a blogger, I'm proud of my blog, and all my work is already showcased here. Why not redesign my blog to work as a cohesive website design? It's the best of both worlds, as far as I'm concerned. So I do really apologize if you view the blog over the next few days and it seems a bit wonky. I promise it'll look great by the end of the week.

PS! I finally finished hosting myself on my very own domain. Welcome to!

Etsy Finds v.2

I had such a great week at home in Boston, and I can't wait to share some stories and some pictures with y'all! Until then, I wanted to share some cute Etsy finds.

Etsy finds are actually my favorite. Mostly because I actually get to set aside time in my day to browse Etsy and I'm being productive at the same time!

Vintage Enamel Tea Kettle via FireLake

Dodecahedron Garland via submicrocosm

Vintage Brass Elephant Bookends via saltandginger

Ikat Pencil Case via oKidz

That's about all I have for today. Do you have an Etsy shop? What are some of your favorite shops or items? Share in the comments, I'd love to see! If you haven't already, check out my Etsy shop!

Last year I absolutely swore that I would never age a year older than 21. But, alas, here we are. The 11th of April in the year 2014. And I'm terrified to say that I made it to 22.

This past year, I've had a great job, finished my senior year of undergrad, traveled up and down the east coast, seen a bunch of concerts, met a ton of people, and had a pretty decent year. 22 + graduation means a little bit of growing up. But as far as I'm concerned - there is always room for fun and to enjoy life. I'll find some room, somewhere.

Also... I'm so, so sorry. I really don't want to do this. But a deep, dark part of me has been waiting for this moment so it's acceptable. It's my birthday so I can do anything.

Shipping Up To Boston

Today I'm headed home! It's my birthday weekend, I have some job interviews, and then I have Easter break - so I was able to get the time off of school. Any free time I have while I'm home will be spent working on my omega presentation - which is due less than 2 weeks after I get back to school!

I'm also hoping to do a couple of projects around my apartment... but those will be on the serious back burner because I'm potentially getting my own place when I get home! Everything is still very much in the early stages, but I'm excited to see where it goes.

Honestly, I really need this quick getaway even if it's only a week and half. The end of the semester and the realness of graduation day is crushing down on me. The break will absolutely do me some good! Now... let's just hope I remembered to download a movie to watch during my flight, hmmm...

Birthday Wishlist // Year 21+1

So last year I made this really complex birthday wishlist and I actually got a lot of what I wanted, which is great! This year, I'm trying to think of what to put on my wishlist... and I honestly don't know. I don't feel like I need anything extra this year to make me happy. So take this post with a grain of salt. And if you see a Mercedes or something in this post, please accept my jokes.

The Gift of Maven: So I tried out a Julep subscription one month and accidentally got hooked. The colors are so fun and the nail polish is amazing quality because of their 4-free formula. I love it - but it isn't really in my beauty budget right now... and I am kind of way too stocked on nail polish to justify buying it for myself. If you want to try out Maven for yourself (your first box is free - just pay shipping!) check it out here!

Spotify Premium: Y'all should have seen this coming. If you have followed this blog even for just a day you'll know that I'm addicted to Spotify. You can gift premium in 1, 3, 6, or 12 month increments. If you are refusing for whatever awful reason you have, GO TRY SPOTIFY PREMIUM. You get one month free and if you don't like it - cancel it. But I swear you won't.

How cute? These dresses [left] & [right] are adorable. I'm thinking of picking one of them up for graduation. Which is now in one month and one day, thank you very much.

And finally, how about buying a gift for yourself? The summer capsule collection over at chloe + isabel just launched, and the colors are so beautiful. A lot of these pieces are limited edition, and bound to sell out. Check it out here!
