LCH Partnership

This is my own little piece of the internet. I realize that I have only been a blog for nearly a week, but I've began to get a little lonely over here chatting to myself. I'd like to think that there are people out there that want to listen to what I have to say. I know there are definitely people out there that I want to listen to, I just haven't come across their blogs yet! That's why today, I took a step towards making this blog more serious and purchased an ad. Starting today and for the whole month, my ad will be displayed over at Little Chief Honey Bee.

Little Chief Honey Bee is the lifestyle / family / fashion / design / etc blog behind the sweetest gal on this side of the internet, Kaelah. I'm so happy to partner up with her this month and promote my blog. I've been following her ever since the days of Livejournal, and it seems crazy to think that my little ad is on the side of her huge blog that I've grown to know and love!

If you've been directed here from Kaelah's blog, then welcome! I'm thrilled you've taken a chance to check out my blog. If you like what you see, take a chance and stick around! I'd love for you to be around while I grow this little blog.

Also, if you have a blog, feel free to advertise it in the comments of this post. I'd love the opportunity to check out my readers' blogs!

Waiting on Summer

Summer is always what everybody looks forward to each year. However, my summer in particular is starting to look better and better each day! If you read my last post, you'd have read how I'm applying to be a volunteer at Bonnaroo. And I've been applying to find the perfect internship this summer. Well, I guess I decided that Bonnaroo wasn't enough music for one summer, so I'm working on adding more shows.

Earlier this month my all time favorite band, Fall Out Boy (and proud of it!) announced that they were finally ending their hiatus! That same day, they announced a new record AND a US tour. Being the crazy fan I am, I was sitting at the computer refreshing exactly at 10am, and STILL got the worst tickets in the house. Regardless, I'm just thankful that I'll have the opportunity to be there.

Then! It was announced this month that Boston would be starting up their very own music festival, the Boston Calling Music Festival! I love that Boston recognized the need for an indie music festival and filled that need with such amazing artists. Unfortunately, the festival is the same weekend as Fall Out Boy, so I can only attend Saturday's show; but the Saturday lineup is better in my opinion.

The Saturday lineup includes artists such as FUN. headlining, Matt & Kim, The Shins, Marina and the Diamonds, and Portugal. the Man.

You can check out all the bands mentioned in this post in this playlist!

Take Me to the Farm!

Bonnaroo tickets went on sale recently, and the line-up is absolutely spectacular. Passion Pit, Matt & Kim, The Lumineers, The xx, Mumford & Sons, Of Monsters and Men... just to skim the surface! As much as I'm dying to shell out the $300 right this instant, the volunteer program caught my eye this morning. For just 24 hours of volunteer work before the festival, I can have a free ticket, free showers, and a meal for every shift I work. Why wouldn't I try!? There are so many cool volunteer opportunities, not to mention I couldn't make $300 working for minimum wage for 24 hours. Applications start in March and I'm too excited to get my hands on one!

I feel like I've been filling out applications left and right. In my previous post, I spoke about how I had began applying for internships. Well, shortly after that I sent in an application to work with LeakyCon 2013! If you're not familiar with LeakyCon, it's one of (if not THE) biggest Harry Potter convention! This summer, it's being held in Portland, OR and London. If I was chosen, I would get to attend both of them... dream come true! Of course LeakyCon Boston happened in 2009 before I realized that Harry Potter conventions could even be a thing.

Hopefully something works out for me this summer; I'll be 21 and I want it to be a really unforgettable summer!

I only have one item left in my Etsy shop, and it expires this week. Be sure to check it out and scoop it up if it tickles your fancy. I'd love to move it before it expires.

On Internships

In order to graduate, I need to complete an internship. I'm realizing that I'm scheduled to graduate in a little over a year, so I guess that means I need to get an opportunity lined up. I'm looking over all these internship options I have all over the internet and honestly, it's a bit overwhelming! I know that I want a social media marketing internship of some sort, but at the same time I know I want to work somewhere that I have a personal connection to, or else I won't be happy. Something in fashion, or web design, or ice cream... who knows!

I just sent out my first internship application today (!!!) for a social media assistant position with a fashion website. AND it's about 10 minutes from home! Can you say fingers crossed? I would love nothing more than to be able to get on board with a company like that. I'm so passionate about learning; I just hope my future internship employer can see that!

Can't Stop, Won't Stop

I think I'm addicted to my design work right now; not that I'm complaining! I'm in an advanced graphic design class and we've been covering typography for the last three weeks. I don't mind typography, I actually rather enjoy it. But I feel as though I'm not being as challenged as I would like to be. I don't feel as though I'm having an opportunity to grow as a designer. Maybe that's why I've been taking on so much extra design work.

It's funny, I'm in charge of making a ton of flyers on campus, but I'm not passionate about photoshopping some flyers together. It's just not what I enjoy doing in my design time. Today, I designed a quick blogger banner for my best friend Karley over at Insignificant Ramblings.

If I'm able to keep up the good work and crank out a bunch of designs on the side in addition to my schoolwork, I might consider doing à la carte designs to make a little extra money and expand my portfolio.

Hmmm... just need to find some friends that need some work done to start. Wish me luck!

Bands to Watch v.1 // Walk The Moon

It's been one of those nights where the person you share your bed with gets up wayyyy earlier than you do, and then you can never fall asleep. So, I've been up give or take 4 hours already; secretly wishing my computer would hover to my bed so I could blog while warm. Additionally, I've been abnormally craving a Dunkin Donuts iced caramel swirl extra extra; only because the closest Dunkin is an hour away, I'm sure. Curse you, mountains!

Anyway, today I want to pay homage to one of my new favorite bands! It all started out when my friend Karley told me she was going to see them after I returned to school. She was reading off the tour dates and places when suddenly she says they're playing in North Carolina. Hold your horses... good music? In North Carolina? You know it's either in Charlotte, Asheville, Greensboro, or Raleigh/Durham. Nope, Boone! They were actually playing at a dive bar 20 minutes from school. I take a good opportunity when I see one, and I bought tickets to go, beginning to listen to them non-stop.

The night of the show, we take off to Boone in the pouring rain... of course. When we arrive, there are cars underwater, rivers overflowing everywhere, craziness! We get to the venue where the band is just outside kinda standing around, with a sign on the door that says "WALK THE MOON CANCELLED DUE TO FLOODING." Just our luck!

So if you have an opportunity to see these guys, do it for me! And if not, at least listen to their sweet tunes. I'm listening to their music 50% of the time I'm awake.

6 Hours Later...

Whew! I forgot how much design work took out of you! This blog design my first large-scale, multi-component piece in quite a while, and I'm really impressed with how it came out? Is it vain to outwardly compliment my own design work?

I'm really excited to get back into blogging, and into a steady stream of design work. I'm hoping this blog will grow into something bigger, almost like a portfolio of sorts.

Guess we'll see where this all goes!

An Introduction is in Order...

Whatever your reason for being here, however you came across this little blog, hello! I'm Deanna, and I started this blog for no purpose at all. I enjoy reading, writing, Harry Potter, graphic design, social media marketing, crafting, and a healthy dose of relaxation. Let's see if we can pull all of that together in this little blog, shall we?

I'm 20 years old, and I have 2 and a half semesters of college left before I graduate with a BS in creative marketing and design. I go to a little liberal arts college in the mountains of North Carolina; but I'm pining to make it back to New England, where I call home.

Stick around for a while, aye?
